| Clarks long and colorful history of innovation fueled by imagination has earned Clarks England an undisputed track record in creating comfort constructions, technologies and patterns that have forever changed the face of the footwear industry: 1825 - Cyrus and James Clark set up a small sheepskin slipper business in the tiny English village of Street, Somerset. 1883 - William Clark creates the first shoes to follow the natural shape of the foot, a revolutionary concept in its time. 1950 - Nathan Clark, inspired by the crepe-soled boots worn by British officers in World War II, introduces the Desert Boot, the first of Clarks Originals destined to become an international cult classic. Late 50s - Clarks innovates the breakthrough process of directly vulcanizing rubber soles onto leather uppers. 1960s - Lance Clark designs the world's first comfort shoe, a moccasin built on Clarks nature-formed last.
